Kalmar’s National IV engine equipment has been on the market for more than a year. Some vehicles have accumulated more than 5,000 hours of working time and are still in excellent operating condition. However, a small number of customer equipment use idling for a long time (such as idling to blow air conditioning/heating while waiting for work) or work at low load for a long time, or even use engine oil or diesel that does not meet specifications, causing the exhaust system behind the engine to be easily blocked. With frequent regeneration, the service life of the DPF (particulate filter) is also greatly shortened.

DPF上面聚集的杂质包含不可燃的灰分以及一些燃烧后产生的烟尘，再生是利用高温燃烧将一些可燃的烟尘进行燃烧，但灰分不可燃，不可燃的灰分主要来自机油，灰分会随着时间、柴油和后处理系统计算后进行累计，在DPF上逐渐积累。到一定量后即使反复再生也不能解决问题，需要更换DPF滤芯。所以润滑油质量也对DPF灰分有影响，灰分积累不会影响发动机性能，但对DPF的再生间隔和更换周期有影响。
The impurities accumulated on the DPF include non-combustible ash and some smoke generated after combustion. Regeneration uses high-temperature combustion to burn some combustible smoke, but the ash is non-combustible. The non-combustible ash mainly comes from engine oil, and the ash will increase over time. The diesel fuel and after-treatment system are calculated and accumulated, and gradually accumulated on the DPF. After reaching a certain amount, even repeated regeneration cannot solve the problem, and the DPF filter element needs to be replaced. Therefore, the quality of lubricating oil also affects the ash content of DPF. Ash accumulation will not affect engine performance, but it will have an impact on the regeneration interval and replacement cycle of DPF.
为此，卡尔玛优先推荐使用如下两种低灰度机油： For this purpose, Kalmar recommends the following two low-grey engine oils:
• 沃尔沃遍达（Volvo Penta）低灰度VDS4.5机油，沃尔沃VDS-4.5ULA10W30；
• Volvo Penta low gray VDS4.5 engine oil, Volvo VDS-4.5ULA10W30;
• Texaco Delo 600ADF, SAE10W30, this engine oil is also a low-gray engine oil certified by Volvo Penta.
Lower ash content extends the service life of DPF. In many cases, it is also possible to reduce the number of soot regenerations based on the driving cycle, thereby increasing uptime, improving fuel consumption efficiency and CO2 emission reductions. For new low gray engine oils, please contact your local Kalmar service representative.
Of course, simply changing the engine oil cannot completely solve the DPF clogging problem. At the same time, you need to pay attention to the following three points:

改善机车作业模式 Improve locomotive operation mode
In the on-site locomotive operation mode, if the locomotive is idling for a long time, operating at low load, the fuel is not fully burned, and the exhaust temperature does not meet the requirements, the DPF will be more likely to be blocked. The on-site operation mode of the locomotive needs to be improved as much as possible.

使用驻车再生功能 Using the parking regeneration function
当机车出现需要再生的报警图标时，则表示发动机排气后处理系统中DPF有较高的烟灰水平、高硫负荷或碳氢化合物，建议司机停车，选择好场地及时进行驻车再生，再生需要有足够的柴油及尿素，以免因数量不足导致再生中断，尽可能每次都能成功再生。
When the locomotive displays an alarm icon that requires regeneration, it means that the DPF in the engine exhaust after-treatment system has high soot levels, high sulfur loads or hydrocarbons. It is recommended that the driver stop the vehicle and choose a good site for parking and regeneration in a timely manner. Regeneration requires There should be enough diesel and urea to avoid regeneration interruption due to insufficient quantity, and try to achieve successful regeneration every time.
驻车再生操作步骤如下： The steps for parking regeneration are as follows:
a.将机车及时停到空旷区域，机车周围避免易燃易爆物品，并确保灭火器易于取用；
a. Park the locomotive in an open area promptly, avoid flammable and explosive items around the locomotive, and ensure th
at the fire extinguisher is easily accessible;
b.机车启用驻车，并怠速（驻车再生期间，如果这两个条件被破坏，驻车再生将中断）；
b. The locomotive activates parking and idles (during parking regeneration, if these two conditions are destroyed, parking regeneration will be interrupted);
c. Use the left and right buttons to switch the display menu to the “Machine Check” menu, then press the confirmation button to enter, use the left and right buttons to select the parking regeneration icon, and press the confirmation button to tick the box, and the locomotive will perform parking regeneration;
d. 驻车再生过程，操作员不可离开机车，要随时观察机车状况，如遇紧急情况可中断驻车再生。正常情况下尽量避免随意中断驻车再生，可能会触发发动机降功率保护；
d. During the parking regeneration process, the operator cannot leave the locomotive and must observe the locomotive condition at any time. In case of emergency, the parking regeneration can be interrupted. Under normal circumstances, try to avoid arbitrarily interrupting parking regeneration, as it may trigger engine power reduction protection;
e. When the parking regeneration is completed, the engine speed returns to idle speed, press the exit key to exit the menu, and the locomotive can be used normally.

及时进行驻车再生，不要中断 Carry out parking regeneration in a timely manner without interruption
在实际工作中，一些司机可能会因为又有几个柜要做，或是想慢慢做，等下一班司机再来处理再生报警，或是驻车再生过程中因为机车要作业而随意中断再生，这种再生做得不及时或再生中断次数达到一定量，会导致发动机控制系统限制发动机功率，需要使用沃尔沃诊断工具（VODIA）到现场进行处理。
In actual work, some drivers may want to do it slowly because they have a few more cabinets to do, and wait for the next driver to handle the regeneration alarm, or they may interrupt the regeneration at will because the locomotive needs to work during the parking regeneration process. If this regeneration is not done in time or the number of regeneration interruptions reaches a certain amount, it will cause the engine control system to limit the engine power, and the Volvo diagnostic tool (VODIA) needs to be used on-site for processing.
Therefore, when the locomotive displays an alarm icon that requires regeneration, please handle it in time and try not to interrupt the regeneration process to avoid triggering the engine limit protection.
